James Williams (he/him) - Director & Compère

James is the busy looking person in the excellent outfits, flitting about the theatre at every show. Since attending the very first Story Slam as a storyteller, James has become increasingly involved with the show over the years, and is presently the show’s director as well as a regular host. His cheeky charm, combined with sensitivity and honesty, makes him a unique and much loved compère. James has a long and storied job history and currently divides his time between organising Story Slam, creating and selling his art on Etsy, and streaming on Twitch.

Becky Pickets (she/her) - Compère & Organiser

Becky originally attended Story Slam as a storyteller, and her ebullient charm combined with cutting nihilistic whit, made it inevitable that she would end up hosting the show. In the outside world Becky is a full time nurse, and can often be found baking delicious birthday cakes for her friends, and decorating them with intricate icing love letters.

Phil Collard (he/him) - Ticket Master & Organiser

Phil is the the owner of the beautiful smiling face you will always find in our box office. Actually the longest serving member of the story Slam team, in addition to organising, ticket mastering and stamp allocation, in the outside world Phil is an award winning lecturer at the university of Bristol and an excellent chef.

Ash Bligh-Wall (they/them) - Technician & Editor

Ash is the handsome face hidden behind the scenes. A massive geek and music nerd, they perform all sound, lighting, tech and editing jobs at Story Slam. In their real life they are a successful and accomplished DJ, recently appearing at Glastonbury, Boom Town and Shambala. They perform solo, as well as with their DJ crew Booty Bass, and they are currently studying music production at the BIMM Institute here in Bristol.

Sarah Klein (she/her) - Photographer

Sarah is the tall and mysterious figure you can often find around the edges of the Story Slam stage, snapping incredibly atmospheric and intimate pictures of our storytellers and audience. A photography teacher in their real life, Sarah’s photos are sharp and dramatic, and some of the most iconic Story Slam pictures have been captured by her. You can find examples of her work at Story Slam in our photos section.

Diego Maeso (he/they) - Photographer

Diego is a documentary and portrait photographer. They use a mix of self portraits, portraits and family archive photos to tell theirs and others' stories. Gender and identity are the main topics of their work. Their perspective on their art is subjective and it is influenced by their own identity as a non binary person. Their work doesn't fit in a singular category, the same way they don't fit in the dichotomy of gender. You can find examples of their work at Story Slam in our photos section.
