This month our theme is Sticky. Expect stories of the sticky, tacky, and difficult to remove. Stories that cling, ooze, and leave a lasting impression. The glue that remains when you peel off a sticker, the feel of the floor in a busy nightclub, or the sticking feeling after taking off a plaster. The sticky stifling air of a steam room, or the unknown squelchy patch that you put your foot in. Glues, paints and slugs. Superglue, epoxy resin and mud. Gooey mishaps in the kitchen, sticky cakes and pastries. Hot and sticky weather. Sticky notes, sellotape and fragile stickers. Glue traps, gunge and lube. Sticker collections, sticky situations, or things that just wont let go. Marshmallows around a campfire, sweet successes, or situations you can't escape. Stories of the uncertain, awkward or tricky...

Each show has its own unique theme, and at this event we are welcoming stories on the theme of Firsts!

Expect stories about first dates, first meetings and first experiences of all kinds. The first moment you met your best friend, or your first encounter with your worst enemy. First day of school, love at first sight or your first fight. First jobs, first pets, or your first time in a new city. The first taste of your favourite food, your first time in a foreign new country, or the first time you realised the world isn't as nice as you thought it was...

After over 100 shows, thousands of stories, multiple hosts, organisers, festivals and venues, we are very proud to say Story Slam is turning 10 YEARS OLD this March, and we think some celebrations are in order. 🎈

So this March, in addition to our regular show, we will be hosting a 10 Year Anniversary Party in the Old Market Assembly. Being held on March 19th, 10 years to the day after they started on March 19th 2014. 🎂<3

Expect stories, speeches, special guests, interviews, games, music and dancing, and of course, birthday cake! More details to be released soon, so keep an eye on our socials and website for updates. This month our theme is Fire 🔥

Expect stories of everything fire, flames and heat. Sitting round a campfire telling stories, or standing around a roaring bonfire laughing at fireworks. Fires to keep warm, fires to cook, and fire to destroy. Stories of playing with fire, camping and accidents. Survival situations, disasters and arson. House fires, car fires and forest fires. The burns you suffered or that time your friends convinced you to brand yourself with a lighter. Things that happened in the heat of the moment, and the ashes you had to shift through the next day. The urn of ashes on the mantlepiece, or the ashes you scattered to the wind. Or it could be stories about the fire within you. The fire to keep going, the determination to succeed or the injustice that sparked your righteous fury. Stories of intensity, sudden excitement and roaring mania. Cooking, kitchens and flame grilled burgers...

This month our theme is Pre-Loved 🧸💔❤️‍🩹

Expect stories of everything pre-loved and second hand. Stories of pre-loved clothes, toys, furniture, tools, musical instruments, pets, hearts, and anything used, regained and passed on. Repaired ski jackets, retro watches and second hand trainers. Family heirlooms passed down from generation to generation. Stories of ownership, repair and reclamation. Your vintage guitar, the abandoned fridge, or the haunted doll. Stories of anything discarded and lost, and then picked up and loved again. Or it could be stories of exes, break-ups and reunions. Relationships new and relationships past. The road to recovery, the baggage of a traumatic past, the pain of love lost, and the joy of being loved anew.

Moments when you snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, or that time you fumbled, lost it all, and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. We hosted a small one-off show in September on the theme of Snacks, but we are so in love with the theme that we've decided to have it for our main show in October as well 🍩🍣🍟🍡

Our theme this October is Snacks. 🍣🍟🍡🍩 Stories about food, meals and special treats. Food is an essential part of everyday life, and can be routine, special, frivolous or sacred. Stories about popcorn at the cinema, ice cream on a summers day, or mint cake at the north pole. Snacks eaten with family, friends or enemies. Snacks at parties, snacks at church, or snacks at the funeral. Putting on a spread, going to an all you can eat buffet, and getting ill from food poisoning. Have you got a story about snacks? Then come tell us at our return event in The Wardrobe Theatre on October 15th.

This month Story Slam is partnering with We The Curious as part of their ‘Festival for our Future’, to bring you a special edition of our storytelling show all about Snacks! 🍟🍦🧀🍔🍎🍇🌭

The show is completely free, and is being held in Millennium Square on Thursday 28th September at 5.45pm.

Promises that you made, or promises that were made to you. Legal contracts, wedding vows and verbal agreements. Intentions good and bad. A promise to keep quiet, or a promise to honour a dying wish. Taking the fall, promising the earth, or making a blood pact. The promise of a new life, the promise of food, or a journey to the promised land. Trust, betrayal, honour and redemption. This month our theme is Rescue. Expect stories of courage, compassion, and hope. Stories about a time you were rescued from a dangerous situation, or maybe you were the one doing the rescuing. Physical rescue, fear, fire and snow. Or a rescue you from depression or addiction. Rescuers, saviours and kind strangers. Stories of despair, hopelessness and redemption. Rescue pets and rescued people, or the rescue that never came... Moments in places unfamiliar, or a moment that changed your life forever.

This month our theme is Bad Blood. Stories of grudges, arguments and family feuds. Siblings, parents and relatives. Your arch nemesis, your school bully or your lost friend. In honour of LGBT+ History Month, and the 19th anniversary of Section 28 being repealed, Story Slam is hosting a special event welcoming stories from the LGBT+ community. And all proceeds from the event will be donated to the LGBT charity Stonewall, supporting gay, lesbian, trans and queer people across the UK and internationally.
